Garden Benches

Garden Benches for Those Break Times

by guestpost on April 7, 2010

Gardens are known for activities such as digging, watering and pruning.  These activities can be tiresome, and most people tend to take a break by sitting on a rock or a wood pile for some time.  Knowing that rocks or wood piles could be ideal homes for ants and scorpions, it is always safer to have garden benches around.

Traditional garden benches are made of wood and can be carried around.  These are rustic and are often made of recycled wood.  Some gardens have cement or mortar benches.  These are fixed in place and get cold during winters.  Nevertheless, they are very useful for sitting in the open and enjoying the sunshine or the nearby greenery.

Garden Benches: Stacking for Storage

by guestpost on February 15, 2010

One of the hardest things that people may have to face is where to store their garden benches.  If you only have limited space available, you can consider stacking the garden benches so that you can fit more in the same amount of space.  If you do, make sure that you protect the surface of the bottom bench with a piece of plastic or other material.  An old blanket or tablecloth will work quite nicely.  After you place the first unit, then flip over and slide the second on top of it, slowly and carefully.  After the garden benches are stored, you can use the leg areas for additional storage for small items as well.  You can also use the legs as handy places to store your garden boots or shoes by sliding them over the ends.

Garden benches come in so many styles

by guestpost on October 7, 2009

Garden benches come in so many styles and designs that choosing just one can be challenging.  If you’re having difficulty finding one style that suits your needs, consider classic iron garden benches.  Iron is a common material used in the construction of outdoor furniture, including garden benches.  Iron garden benches can either be wrought or cast, both types having unique and positive qualities that make them look great in gardens of all kinds.  Wrought iron garden benches tend to be made from thinner pieces of iron and have a hand-made look to them.  They can be very ornate, often incorporating curling designs that look fantastic in elaborate gardens.  If you want your garden to have a very customized, artisan look about it, wrought iron garden benches are a great option.  Cast iron garden benches can be a little more ornate at a lower price.  Their designs often incorporate flowers or animals, making them a great complement to your outdoor space.  These range from traditional designs to some more innovative, unique designs.  Consider investing in some very unique cast iron garden benches if you are hoping to set your garden apart from others.  Whether cast or wrought, iron garden benches look great and can give you outdoor space the finishing details it needs.

Great garden benches can be an asset to any garden

Great garden benches can be an asset to any garden, patio, deck, porch or yard but old, worn garden benches often detract from your overall outdoor design.  If it has been a while since you purchased your garden benches, you may want to reassess them to see if it is time to replace them.  A good way to do this is to look at your garden benches as if you are seeing them for the first time.  After you haven’t seen them for a long period of time, take a very close look at your benches as if they belong to someone else.  Note any fading in their color, any rust or cracking, broken parts, missing hardware or chipped paint.  Think about the style and whether it really fits with the rest of your outdoor décor.  Are your garden benches starting to look a little dated?  If they are or if they’re looking a bit worn, you have a couple of options.  You can do some minor repairs to make your garden benches look new.  Sand down any old paint or finish and repaint or refinish the surface.  Fill in any cracks or chips with putty or caulking before you paint.  If your garden benches are beyond this type of repair, it may be time to invest in a new set.

Garden benches are a wonderful accent

by guestpost on July 28, 2009

Garden benches are a wonderful accent to any garden but many gardeners are only aware of a few styles of benches.  There are also so many unique, beautiful types of garden benches on the market.  These creative pieces of furniture can give your garden a distinctive touch.  Unique garden benches are available in a variety of materials.  Teak wood, a naturally durable material, is a common outdoor furniture material but can be made into some very unique products.  Creative designers have created wonderful carved teak garden benches.  When painted in unique colors like red and teal, these make a striking addition to a garden.  Teak can also make an impression when unpainted.  There are some great modern designs in teak, such as one that incorporates dozens of teak planks plied to the shape of a seated person and set side by side to create a beautiful, unique bench.  Iron benches come in many unique designs as well.  Some reproductions of less well-known vintage or antique garden bench designs look great in gardens.  This includes both simple designs and more elaborate designs like one garden bench that is in the shape of a large butterfly.  There are far too many unique garden bench designs to name, so your best bet is to search around to find that truly special piece for your garden.

If you are an avid gardener, a nice set of garden benches can be the perfect thing for sitting and appreciating your work.  You can set them either on your porch, patio, deck overlooking your garden or you can place them directly in your garden.  Either way, you will find yourself drawn to the spot as a tranquil place to observe the life of your garden.  The most common garden benches are made of wood, metal and stone.  Wood garden benches are made to withstand the elements.  Wood can be very sensitive, so most high quality garden benches are made from woods that have natural weather resistant properties.  Cedar is one such type of wood.  Cedar resists heat, cold, dryness and humidity.  When treated and finished, it makes an excellent material for outdoor furniture.  Iron is one of the more common metals used to make garden benches.  It also has resistant qualities that make it suitable for use in garden benches.  In addition to resisting rust, quality iron garden benches come in some lovely, ornate designs.  Stone is a less versatile material but is probably the most weather resistant.  It has a natural resistance to wind, rain, sun and heat.  Stone garden benches are a great choice for those looking for something that they will never have to replace.  There are plenty of options available to those seeking to purchase garden benches, so put some thought into your choice and you’ll end up with a great product.
